Station Camp Middle School

Dear Parents and Students,

We hope that during this time that you are staying safe and healthy. This page will provide resources for continuing educational enrichment at home. All of these resources are optional. None of the assignments will be used for grading purposes. Our intention is to update this page weekly on Monday mornings for the duration of the closure. Some of the resources will require your child to log in with their @sumnerk12.net Google account. If your child has forgotten their password, please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and/or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. We will open a ticket with the Technology Department to have the password reset. Unfortunately, this will not happen instantly.

Many of the activities in 7th grade will be on the iXL platform. For a quick user guide, click here. Also, if your teacher uses Google Classroom, be sure to continue to check there for more resources.

Scroll or click on one of the links below to find information for each subject area.

**Parents, we want you to know that SCMS cares about our students. Obviously, as teachers, we are concerned about the learning time that we are missing in our classrooms. But, we also want to make sure our students are safe and healthy. We will be reaching out to you in a variety of ways each week to check in to see if we can help in any way. Please take a moment to respond to emails, texts, Google Classroom messages, or phone calls and let us know how we can help. We know this is a very trying time. Thank you!**

***Week 4 update: Following the guidance of the Sumner County Schools Instructional Department, we would like to recommend that our students spend 3 hours total per day on academic work. Monday - Thursday is set aside for working through new course material. Fridays are now Flex Fridays! On Flex Fridays, we are encouraging students to review, catch up from the week's work, participate in a challenge, or complete some enrichment. The County Instructional page, Sumner Connect, will be updated on Fridays for the next week. Station Camp Middle School will continue to provide resources prepared by our classroom teachers. Those resources will continue to be updated and available on Sunday nights. Please click the following link to access Sumner Connect: https://sites.google.com/view/sumnerconnect/home/middle-school?authuser=0***

Flex Friday 5/22/2020 - Create your own math word problem related to school closure/Covid-19 that requires the person solving it to utilize the order of operations (PEMDAS) to solve it. Post a picture of your word problem on our school Facebook page using the hashtag #SumnerConnect to share it!

PE Update: May is here and that means the warm weather is here to stay.  May is also the time of year when we have field day at SCMS! Unfortunately, we cannot enjoy the tug-of-war, inflatable bounce houses, and hanging out signing yearbooks together. You can still have fun outside with your family, though. Create some new (or old) field day events! Use your imagination to invent some new games or activities for a "virtual field day". They can be silly and fun, or they can be competitive (create medals for the winners, too). Let us know what you come up with!

Tips for Home Instruction

1. Set up a daily routine.
2. Have a designated place that is set aside for learning.
3. Limit distractions for your child during learning time.
4. Allow your child to take breaks but structure them to maintain a routine.
5. Mix screen time with offline learning. This can be difficult since many of the resources will be digital. Have your child read a book or textbook in order to have a break from the screen.
6. Connect with other parents to share strategies that you've found to be effective.
7. Allow your child the freedom to explore their interests.
8. Take time to have fun as a family.

Hopefully these resources will prove to helpful for your family.
